What this job is all about!

The Head of Strategic Relationships leads a team of 10 employees, of which half are responsible for managing the relationships with, and growing the business of the top 50 largest existing Merchants,  while the other half focuses on managing and developing channel partnerships across Europe (including Payment Service Providers, Point of Sale Hardware and Software vendors, ISO’s, and other resellers) across the verticals Retail, Travel (Airlines & OTA’s), Leisure (Hotels & Restaurants), Gambling, and Public Transport.


Getting the right things done!

  • Lead, coach, motivate and develop both the Corporate Relationship Management Team and the Partnerships Team, currently 10 FTE.
  • Prioritize, recruit, build and manage new business opportunities with EMS’ existing base of large Merchants and new Partners/ channels within Europe based on revenue opportunity, technical ability, and understanding their business model.
  • Through a thorough analysis of both the ever-changing payment landscape and EMS’ needs, select focus segments in which we want to build new partnerships. Lead the acquisition and coordinate the onboarding of new Partners/ channels and work closely with the Integration Managers and manage the relationship after launch.
  • Within the Partnerships Team, focus on deepening our relationships with existing Partners and make sure they drive new initiatives like the Payment Facilitator model and new POS terminal propositions.
  • Work extensively with the top 50 Merchants of EMS, build trusted relationships, identify growth opportunities and execute on growing the business we do together.
  • For both the Partnerships Team and the Relationship Management Team, develop and implement account strategies, forecasts & agreed sales opportunity plans for each account to grow company market share and profit.
  • Revenue and contribution responsible for all indirect channels and the top 50 Merchants.
  • Work closely with internal departments to provide and coordinate service and new product initiatives to the Partners/ Merchants. Areas include, but not limited to Product Development, Risk, Operations, Legal and Sales.
  • Report to the Chief Commercial Officer and be part of the Commercial Leadership Team.


We would like you to have!

  • Completed Bachelor or Master degree;
  • Minimum of 7 years of commercial experience in the online payment industry;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a commercial team;
  • Strong commercial background, proven sales ability including pricing, relationship building and management, consultative selling;
  • Learning and knowing the dynamics and trends of the market segment and translating that knowledge into an effective, profitable partner/ relationship management strategy;
  • Proven ability to generate new business and effectively qualify opportunities by building strong relationships with Partners/ channels;
  • Proven experience in leading the negotiation of complex contractual arrangements;
  • Strong, inspiring personality with proven leadership skills;
  • Strong commercial sales focus – with high level of business acumen and judgment;
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, presentation and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with C-level executives;
  • Strongly focused to make deals and to execute them;
  • Ability to articulate complex issues clearly to internal management, internal departments and Partners/ channels;
  • Independent, result orientated, creative thinker with hands-on mentality;
  • Able to demonstrate personal excellence and to reach and exceed aggressive sales targets;
  • Strong personal work ethic and motivation for both personal and company success;
  • Team player, motivating others through authentic leadership;
  • Experience in working with Salesforce is a plus;
  • Fluency in Dutch and English, additional languages are an advantage.
